Thriller film title analysis

Image result for thriller film titlesThis title is effective because it triggers peoples fears/phobias such as claustrophobia. The title "The ring suggests being trapped in a small space and the way there is a ring around the title "the ring" shows this. The text looks handwritten which is effective because it tells the audience this may have been written by an important character in the film and that the handwriting can be recognized in the title. The ring around the title glows which suggests energy within the ring. The fact the background is black and the text and the ring is white makes the title stand out.

Image result for the silence of the lambsIn this poster from "The silence of the lambs" it shows a girl who's mouth has been covered with a butterfly, this suggests the girl is being in some way held back by someone or something, and cannot voice her opinion. It looks like she is not in control of her own body, this is because the butterfly is an orange/yellow color, the same color her eyes have been changed to, which suggests her mind and body has been taken over. Her eyes and the butterfly stand out on her face because the image has been changed to black and white. This suggests passing time and rotting. The image has also been blurred into the background which makes it difficult for the audience to see her surroundings, if at all. This makes the audience curious.

Image result for the last house on the leftIn this poster of the film "The last house on the left", the image of the house has been turned black and white. This makes the house appear older and spookier as the dark colors and dim lighting suggest negativity and the unknown. The way the picture is placed on the title is effective because the image of the house is surrounded by dark cloud's which eventually fade into the black background. The title is in all capital letters which makes it stand out. The words "THE, LAST, ON, THE, LEFT" in the title are all in white writing. This is effective because the text stands out on the dark background making it eye catching. The word "HOUSE" in the title is in red, which looks like it has been smudged. This is effective because it looks as though it is blood being splashed which immediately shows the audience the film will include violence and possibly a murder. The fact the house appears to be in the middle of nowhere on the poster also makes audiences feel uneasy as phobias are triggered and there's no one around to shout for help.

Image result for thriller filmsThis poster of "The final destination" shows a broken mirror with a mans reflection. The mirror is broken and the man looks as though he is screaming. What is effective about this poster is that although the mirror is smashed the audience is still able to see the man screaming, although his mouth looks skeleton. This suggests death to the audience, the tag line "Rest in pieces" also suggests death as it is a play on words to "rest in peace" as the mirror is broken into pieces. The broken mirror also suggests bad luck.

In this poster of "The unborn" it shows a woman's back looking into the mirror. The audience can see half of the women's face of her in the mirror which makes her appear mysterious to the audience. In the mirror the audience can also see a man who is behind the woman in the mirror but behind the camera so his reflection can only be seen in the mirror. He appears staring at the woman as she stares at him back. This is effective because the audience are intrigued and frightened of the mysterious man. The tag line "Evil will do anything to live" suggests the man is in some way evil and frightening, this makes the audience feel uneasy. The dim lighting suggests danger and an uneasy atmosphere.
